The Great Miami Rowing Center will hold its third annual Blue and Burgundy Regatta on the Miami River in Hamilton on Saturday, May 1. The 1850 meter course will run between the Columbia and Black Street Bridges, with high school teams from Butler County, Clermont County, Cincinnati, and Toledo expected to race in head to head Henley-style competition. Time trials will run from 8 AM-2 PM., with finals between the top teams later in the day.
Awards will be given in varsity, second varsity, and novice categories.
The banks of the Great Miami River provide a superb venue for watching the races, where you can sit and observe, or ride your bike along the bike trail, following the racing shells on the east or west sides of the river.
All boats will launch from the GMRC dock near the Main/High bridge. Concessions, food, beverages, t-shirts, and posters will be available at the GMRC boat enclosure at 110 North B Street.
The Burgundy and Blue is the first of three regattas to be hosted by GMRC in 2010. Row for the Cure will be held on Sunday, September 12 in conjunction with River Days, and the Hamilton Fall Classic will take place on Saturday, October 23.
