The Novice Racing Team Parent Meeting will be held on September 9, 2010 at 7:30 PM at the Fitton Center, 101 S. Monument, Hamilton, OH.

The JROW Parent meeting will be held on September 23, 2010 at 7:00 PM at Garfield Middle School, 250 N. Fair Ave, Hamilton, OH.

JROW will have seats open for experienced and inexperienced rowers. This crew is for individuals who wish to just give rowing a try without rowing competitively. The team meets only 2 days per week for 4 weeks* and rowers in 9th-12th grade have the opportunity to switch to the racing team for the first two weeks of the season.

*Since we draw from more than one school we practice even when some schools have teacher in service days, etc. For the same reason we will be training over spring break on the same afternoon schedule.

Online Registration
All rowers must register online every season and we will no longer be doing ANY paper transactions. If you are having trouble with this process, contact Traci with Regatta Central at support@regattacentral.com or (614) 360-2922 (9AM-5PM). This process is a 2 step process.

STEP 1 - Register and Pay (online registration coming soon)

PLEASE NOTE: Due to school schedules, JRow 1 has been postponed by 2 weeks. Please note the new start date.

STEP 2 - Complete the Waiver

Complete an online waiver with USRowing. No rower will be allowed to participate in practice until this waiver has been completed. It is good for the calendar year and must be renewed after January 1st of the year.

Highlights
Olympic Sport JROW gives every student the opportunity to participate in an Olympic sport regardless of your athletic ability. Everyone gets equal time in the boats on this team!

Early Start! If you're not available to join the racing team at the moment, or you're not in 9th grade yet, JROW gives you a chance to get the basics down before your first competitive season. Rowers who complete JROW before they start racing often times rise to the top of their novice class early on.

College Rowing Starting your training as early as possible can make you more desirable to college coaches. These schools are looking for athletic ability as well as knowledge of the sport and technique of the rower.

Membership Fees
These fees go directly towards the cost of running the rowing program. Since we are not affiliated with any particular school, we rely on the membership fees to pay our coaches, repair our equipment, and purchase gas and other necessities for practice. Each rower is urged to come to every practice and therefore will not prorate these fees based on attendance.

Moving from JROW to Racing
JROW provides a great introduction to the sport of rowing. Any rowers that would like to move to 6–day a week training is eligible to do so once they enter the 9th grade. Once you join the racing team it is expected that you plan on attending all the practices and regattas. This can be a tough switch so please view the information about the Youth Racing Team to understand the committment necessary to race.

Why switch?
While rowing 3 days a week rowing is fun, competitive rowing on the racing team takes the experience to a new level. The novices will race in categories with other novices of similar experience levels. If you are planning on sticking with rowing for subsequent seasons, joining the racing team will help you bridge ‘experience’ gap between the current varsity rowers and the novices.

Often new rowers will hear about our programs after the start of our season. If that is the case you may still be able to join. You may also row during subsequent seasons. Check the site often to stay informed about the seasons coming up.
