Rowing is a dynamic and constantly changing environment. Our coaches work hard to stay on the cutting edge in rowing trends and research. They regularly attend conferences such as Jim Joy's The Joy of Sculling and the USRowing Coaching Conference and attend lectures given by experts in the field such as:

  • Bebe Bryans Head women's coach at the University of Wisconsin,
  • Larry Gluckman Head Coach, Trinity College, former Princeton, Dartmouth, and a US Olympic Coach,
  • Todd Jesdale Head Coach of Thomas Jefferson High School and one of the most successful coaches in the USA over the past 40 years
  • Tim McLaren One of the world's foremost Olympic rowing coaches, has recently accepted the position as Director and Head Coach of the Oakland-based California Rowing Club.
  • Al Morrow Development Women's Coach for Canada, 1999 FISA Coach of the Year, Olympic Champion, 1992,
  • Ed McNeely, M.Sc. Strength Coach, Canadian National Rowing Team, author of Training for Rowing,

Frances Mennone

GMRC’s Executive Director, Frances Mennone, has over 15 years of experience with the rowing industry. As a Butler County native she is familiar with the schools and communities. During her rowing career, Ms. Mennone spent 5 years developing the Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club into one of the premier youth organizations in the United States. During that time, in 1997, she managed the U.S. Junior National Team’s training and European competition trip. In 1998 she coached for the U.S. Junior Development camp. In 1999, Ms. Mennone took on the challenge of creating a youth rowing program in Chicago as part of a program supported by the United States Olympic Committee. During her time in Chicago she created and funded the youth program. When facility constraints called for a new venue, Ms. Mennone developed the first rowing facility in Chicago in over 100 years. Now back in Ohio, Ms. Mennone directs the Great Miami Rowing Center as a part time Executive Director.

Emilie Graham, RD, LD

Emilie's rowing career began in Chicago, IL during the inagural season of the Lincoln Park Juniors. With only 3 short months of rowing under her belt, she was quickly recruited on scholarship to the University of Cincinnati's NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Team. While studying studio art at UC, she earned a spot in the varsity eight and the team's Most Improved award by the spring of her freshman year. By the end of her UC career she became one of the team's first four year varsity letter winners achieved multiple podium appearances at the Speakmon, Head of the Hooch, MACRA, and SIRA. She has raced all over the country from Miami to Boston to Sacremento and has a wealth of experience to share.

After exhausting her eligibility as a student rower, Emilie began her career as a competitive coach at UC. She coached the varsity fours for two years, while studying nutrition in the School of Allied Health Sciences. After graduation, and moved on to become GMRC's first head coach in 2007. During the spring season she brought 60 new athletes to the sport, many of whom are still with the team or have gone on to compete in college. In 2008, Emilie took a sabbatical to finish the requirements to become a Registered Dietitian at Loyola University Chicago and has now returned as the Program Director to resume building the rowing community in Butler County.

Having been on both sides of the recruiting table, Emilie has a wealth of knowledge regarding what it takes to be recruited to a collegiate program. If you're thinking of rowing in college, Coach Emilie is a great place to start gathering information!

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Ted began his rowing career at Cincinnati Country Day School, where he rowed the last two years of high school. After graduating from CCDS, Ted went on to row at Marietta College, spending two years rowing the top Freshmen 8 in the fall of 2000 and moving to the JV 8 in the spring, rowing with the JV boat unitl the spring of 2002. For the past two years, Ted has been coaching at CCDS working with their novice along with Paul Arndts and is now here at GMRC during Country Day's off season.

T.J.’S rowing career started in the spring of 2008 when he became one of the first youth rowers for our own Youth Program. He stayed with GMRC till graduation. Currently he is a full time student at the University of Cincinnati where he is majoring in Education.  While he is new to coaching rowing, he has coaching experience as an Assistant Coach for little league baseball for the Mason Youth Organization from 2006 to 2007 where he taught 3rd and 4th graders the basics of playing the sport.

Joy Kramer-Arndts joins the GMRC coaching staff with experience in many facets of rowing and 14 years experience as a competitive athlete (soccer and rowing). Joy began her rowing career in Fall 2004 as a walk-on novice rower for the University of Cincinnati Women’s NCAA Division 1 Rowing Team. Joy was able to compete two years at the college level before graduating in 2006. Since graduation, Joy has worked full-time but also remained involved with the rowing community. In 2009 she joined the GMRC Masters program and earned a gold medal at the USRowing Midwest Masters regatta. Additionally, since February 2010 she has been a part of the GMRC Regatta Committee that organizes the growing regatta series hosted in Hamilton.

Paul, a Dayton native, is an alumni of the University of Cincinnati Men's Rowing Team, where he learned to love the sport. While at UC, Paul rowed the eights, fours, and pairs at Head of the Hooch, Speakmon, SIRA, and ECAC. After rowing with UC, Paul began rowing with the Cincinnati Rowing Club where he began sculling. He had success as a sculler rowing in quads, doubles, and a single at such races as Head of the Hooch and the prestigious Head of the Charles.  He earned his degree in Geology in 2008 and currently lives with his wife, Joy, also a GMRC Masters rower and Regatta Committee Member, in Milford.  Paul joins us during his off-season from coaching the high school competitive novice rowers at Cincinnati Country Day School.

Lindsey holds a BA in Operations Management from the University of Cincinnati. She currently works full time at an equipment leasing company. She started rowing while taking undergraduate classes at UC. She rowed for four years for their Varsity Women's program. In 2007 she lead the Bearcats to a 4th Place finish in the Big East. She has experience coaching volleyball and basketball to young athletes.
