About Learn to Row - $140/Level

You’ve never rowed, but you’d love to try it? Sign up for our Learn to Row Classes. All sessions are ideal for those looking for a low-impact yet tough, cardiovascular team sport. You’ll learn the basics of the sport and improve your overall fitness level. And you’ll meet people from all over the county!

The Great Miami Rowing Center offers a completely beginner-based rowing program in evening sessions for adults. You will learn the essentials of sweep rowing (one oar per person) with both land training on rowing machines and on-the-water training on the Great Miami River. The focus is on basic rowing skills and terms, with an emphasis on learning how to row as a crew of 8 or 4.

Class is held at the Great Miami Rowing Center at 110 N. B Street, Hamilton, OH and is led by the GMRC coaching staff, directed by Head Coach Emilie Graham.

This course is open to anyone who is interested in learning how to row! Minimum age is 18 years and the class is limited to the first 18 people who reserve a space and complete their registration. We also ask that you have very basic swimming skills. You will sign a waiver stating that you can swim 100 meters (any stroke) and tread water for at least 10 minutes.

During this course, we will learn about rowing boats and oars, how to transport them onto the water, the basic sweep rowing stroke, and marine safety.

What to Bring to Class
We have all the equipment you will need in order to row. You should wear shorts and a t-shirt (not too baggy), socks, and tennis shoes. As the weather gets colder we suggest you layer your clothing and take it off as you get warmer. Additionally bring a water bottle as there is no access to water when we are on the river. During the summer months it may be necessary to bring a larger water bottle. You must bring all your waivers signed and can be found here.

Cancellation Policy
Practice will occur rain or shine. In the event of a thunderstorm or other inclement weather, the class will be moved on land for rowing on ergometers (rowing machines) and education. When necessary any cancellations will be posted on the website and communicated through email.

Class Participation
The class has a limited number of spaces and the boats have a specific number of rowers required. It is imperative that you inform the coach 24 hours before any absences, so that proper arrangements can be made for the rest of the class.

Cost
The cost is $140. These fees cover coaching, equipment rental, and site maintenance. Payment must be received by the first class and may be brought on the first day if you have made arrangements and reserved a place ahead of time. If you take both summer sessions of Learn to Row and the join the adult team before September 22nd your Masters fees will only be $200. You'll save $50.00!
