Learn to Row (Level 1 Rowing)
4 weeks, 2 days per week, 6:30-8:30PM (Check schedule above)
Located at the Outdoor Facility

The Great Miami Rowing Center offers a completely beginner-based rowing program in evening sessions for adults. You will learn the essentials of sweep rowing (one oar per person) with both land training on rowing machines and on-the-water training on the Great Miami River. The focus is on basic rowing skills and terms, with an emphasis on learning how to row as a crew of 8 or 4. During this course, we will learn about rowing boats and oars, how to transport them onto the water, the basic sweep rowing stroke, and marine safety.

Prerequisites: Ability to swim 100 meters and tread water for 10 minutes
Cost: $140 for 4 weeks*

*Note: All payments made for Learn to Row go towards paying the first year dues should you choose to continue on to the masters program.

Basic Skills Development (Level 2 Rowing)
2 days per week 6:30-8:30PM (Check schedule above)
Located at the Outdoor Facility

This course is designed to develop the technique of rowing. Focus will be placed on proper catch and release, oar height through the drive and recovery, body and blade positioning, and other techniques of rowing consistent with the GMRC stroke. This course is best for Learn to Row graduates who wish to continue rowing with the masters team or rowers who feel they need a refresher before joining the masters team.

This course may be taken several times, however, members will only be charged once for the class.

Prerequisites: Learn to Row or previous rowing experience.
Cost: $140 for 4 weeks for non-members; $70 for 4 weeks for members*

*Note: All payments made for Basic Skills Development made prior to membership will go towards paying the first years dues. Members will only be charged once for this class.

Individuals with prior rowing experience: please contact Masters Head Coach Tony Geara at coachtony@greatmiamirowing.com to determine proper class placement.

Great Miami River Safety Training
Saturday 12-4PM (Check schedule above)
Location TBD

The section of the Great Miami River we row on, as with any body of water, has its dangers. Before anyone is eligible to takecrews out on their own without a coaching launch, this safety education class must be completed. This assures crews know what the hazards are in the water and how to avoid them. All small boat scullers will be required to complete a flip test in order to row on this part of the river.

Prerequisites: 3 months rowing with GMRC and Basic Skills Development or previous rowing experience
Cost: Free, manual may be printed out online or purchased for $10
