Type of Boat & Price

Single - 1x

$40
The type of boat used is a recreational single, which is much wider and more stable than racing singles. The style of rowing is sculling, which is done with two oars, one oar in each hand.

Double - 2x $65 $32.50/person
The boat used is a racing double, which is less stable and requires previous rowing experience to row.

Pair - 2- $65 $32.50/person
This boat rowed in the sweep style of rowing. Each rower has one oar in both hands. This boat is also an advanced boat and requires previous rowing experience to row.

Four - 4+

$110
$27.50/person
Large sweep boats are the best place to initially learn how to row. These boats are much more stable and require four people to row. The coxswain (the individual who steers the boat) is provided by the Great Miami Rowing Center.

Eight - 8+
$170
$21.25/person
An eight is the most stable of all the sweep boats, therefore another great boat to learn in. The coxswain (the individual who steers the boat) is provided by the Great Miami Rowing Center.

Additional Information

Experience
Previous experience is required to row the 2x and the 2-, however, beginners may start in the 1x, 4+, 8+, or indoor rowing machines.

Reservations
In order to reserve equipment and coaching please send an email to Program Director Emilie Graham. Please include the following information for each rower in an email to coach@greatmiamirowing.com:

  • Name
  • Age
  • Height/Weight
  • Previous Rowing Experience
  • Boat you are interested in
  • 2 preferred time slots

Setup & Teardown
Rowing is an equipment intensive sport. The boat and oars must be carried to the water in addition to the coaching launch. We recommend selecting a time slot within 1/2 hour of the end of any current program. That way the equipment can be left close to the dock and only needs to be carried in one direction.

The time required for setup and teardown is not included in the 90 minute lesson, so please allow an additional 30 minutes to setup and tear down the launch.
