Team Race Day Expectations
Arrival
As soon as you arrive on site find the GMRC tent and your coach. When you arrive the boats will all have been rigged and may currently be on the water. Know which equipment you are rowing and what event you are in. Once your boat becomes available, flip it into slings and check your seat. Please be aware of our equipment, slings are among the top items lost at regattas. Also please be sure everything is strapped down with a GMRC strap, these are also often misplaced at regattas.

Racing
Each rower is responsible for knowing the current time and what time they are supposed to meet up before a race. During the fall season this will be 1 hour and 30 minutes before the scheduled race time. Please also schedule bathroom visits in enough time to meet your crew on time.

Between Races
Rowers should always be either at the trailer or at the tent while resting between races. If a ANY coach (juniors, masters, or MUH) asks for rowers to accomplish a task, rowers should move quickly and immediately, complete the task, then return to the tent. We are all one big team and everyone should do their best to help each other out.

Launching Teammates
It's important that we all put forth the effort to support each other before and after a race. If another boat is launching or returning and you are currently not preparing to race, you must be at the dock assisting your teammates. This includes handing out or collecting shoes, oars, water bottles, or anything else the launching crew needs.

Loading the Trailer
Once a boat is finished racing for the day, it must be dirigged and loaded. This should not be any one lineup's task, but rather a team effort. If we load as we go we'll have less to do at the end of the day. Additionally, the amount of time trailer loading takes is ENTIRELY dependent on how quickly and efficiently the rowers move. If you're not sure what to do then ask someone! We do not want to see anyone lounging at the tent all day or standing around doing nothing.

Notes:

  • In order to get to the regatta site on time and able to "get the game face on," rowers will need to arrive at the regatta site no later than 2 hours before your event.
  • Boat trailers, large buses and vans carrying athletes will be permitted in the park for free. All others will need to pay the park's daily fee of $5 per car. We recommend that spectators park at Rick's Boathouse on the Southside of the Reservoir. Visit www.rickscafeboatyard.com for directions. There is free parking and a great deck in which to view the finish line. Rick's will begin serving coffee at 9 a.m. with a full menu available at 10 a.m. It is a great way to make watching a head race fun!!!
  • Spectators and booster groups are also invited to set up tents on Eagle Creek beach, adjacent to the crew launching and docking area. Spectators should follow the regatta parking signs.
  • Please allow 1 hour to de-rig and load the equipment following the completion of our racing.
  • Families should bring a folding chair, foul weather gear in case it rains, something to read or listen to while you wait and comfortable shoes-there's a lot of walking!
  • Emergency contact information: Coach Emilie Graham 531-892-GMRC

Information regarding Head style Racing
Head races are against the clock, so there will be a long procession of boats followed by gaps in which nothing will happen. Results typically aren't posted until a few hours after the race is over, so we conceivably could be on the road home without knowing exactly how we did.

Directions:
From the south:
1. I-74 North or 1-70 West to I-65 North through downtown Indianapolis.
2. Exit at Lafayette Rd, exit 121
3. Turn right on Lafayette rd.
4. Turn left (west) onto 56th St (you'll pass back under I-65 and then I-465).
5. Turn right (north) into Eagle Creek Park. Should be a park entrance sign.
6. Take the first left, toward the beach and water sports area.
