The Novice Racing Team Parent Meeting will be held on September 9, 2010 at 7:30 PM at the Fitton Center, 101 S. Monument, Hamilton, OH.
The JROW Parent meeting will be held on September 23, 2010 at 7:00 PM at Garfield Middle School, 250 N. Fair Ave, Hamilton, OH.
The Racing Team is for anyone who is able to make a
commitment to practicing 6 days per week* and wants to travel
to races this season. The racing team is split into novice (1st season of rowing), junior varsity (2nd season of rowing), and varsity
(1+ year of experience), crews.
Rowers must be in 9th-12th grade to participate on the racing team, as racing opportunities for younger rowers are limited.
*Since we draw from more than one school we practice even when
some schools have teacher in service days, etc. For the same
reason we will be training over spring break on the same afternoon
schedule.
Online Registration
All rowers must register online every season and we will no longer be doing ANY paper transactions. If you are having trouble with this process, contact Traci with Regatta Central
at support@regattacentral.com or (614) 360-2922 (9AM-5PM). This process is a 2 step process.
STEP 1 - Register and Pay
The Great Miami Rowing Center is a club program. Since we are not affiliated with any particular school district, we rely on program fees to run the club. The fees cover the cost of coaching, equipment maintenance, gas for the coaching launches, land rental, liability insurance, etc. These fees also cover all cost related to travel to the races on the weekends, including entry fees, trailering equipment to the racecourse, and food for the day for the rowers.
Please note that scholarships are available on a need basis and we always offer payment plans. We will never refuse any student the opportunity to row based on economic harship. All information will be covered in the preseason meeting, or you may email us at coach@greatmiamirowing.com for more information.

STEP 2 - Complete the Waiver
Complete an online waiver with USRowing. No rower will be allowed to participate in practice until this waiver has been completed. It is good for the calendar year and must be renewed after January 1st of the year.
Highlights Indoor Rowing Tank Visits. The Cincinnati Rowing and
Fitness Center (located under the Montgomery Inn on Eastern
Ave. in downtown Cincinnati) also has what is called an indoor rowing 'tank'. It simulates
rowing on the water. When the weather is too cold to go outside (late fall to early spring) we visit the tanks several times.
Active Traveling Schedule. Since our regattas are all day events, it is impossible to race during the week. We have an active travel scheduled of 5 regattas each fall and spring. Each racing team member is expected to be present at all the regattas. Many of our trips are only day trips to Columbus, Dayton or Indianapolis. We do take one overnight trip each season.
Home Regattas. GMRC runs a regatta series on our own water throughout the year. In September we have Row for the Cure, which is an adult only competition. The youth rowers will volunteer at this event in support of the club. In the fall we run the Hamilton Fall Classic and in the spring we run the Blue & Burgundy Regatta.
Parent Meeting
Every season the parent meeting is MANDATORY for the rower and at least one parent. It is imperative that each family is present so there is no confusion regarding the season and what is expected from each rower.
Appointment Days
Attendance at practice is paramount. Although it seems as though missing one day isn't a big deal, it takes a crew of 9 people to row. If each person were to miss one practice, that's almost 2 weeks that the TEAM loses out on.
In addition, missing too much practice
can jepoardize a rower's chances at competing in a higher boat.
We recognize that appointments are hard to make outside of practice,
so please use these days to take care of group projects, doctors
appointments, or to catch up on homework. It is unacceptable
to miss racing practice due to avoidable circumstances.
Fall 2010 Youth Important Dates
Please check back often, these dates and times may change and dates may be added.
