Come row with GMRC this spring! On Monday February 22nd the spring season officially begins for the GMRC Youth program. Bring your friends new or old for one of the best seasons for the sport of rowing.

Programs
This spring GMRC will offer 2 programs for all experience levels

Varsity and Novice Racing Team - $250 + Regatta Fees
February 22nd - May 15th, 2010

Monday - Friday* 3:30-5:30 PM
Saturday 8 AM-11 AM

The Racing Team is for anyone who is able to make a commitment to practicing 6 days per week and wants to travel to races this season. The racing team is split into varsity (experienced) and novice (inexperienced) crews.

View Spring 2010 Racing Schedule

Recreational Team - $175
February 22nd - May 1st, 2010

Monday, Wednesday, Friday* 3:30-5:30 PM

The Recreational Team will have seats open for experienced and inexperienced rowers. This crew is for individuals who wish to just give rowing a try without rowing competitively. The team meets only 3 days per week for 10 weeks and rowers have the opportunity to switch to the racing team for the first two weeks of the season.

*Since we draw from more than one school we practice even when some schools have teacher in service days, etc. For the same reason we will be training over spring break on the same afternoon schedule.

Moving from Recreational to Racing
Any rowers that would like to move to 6–day a week training is eligible to do so at this time. This is definitely a popular option and many of the varsity members began as recreational members. The fee for shifting to the racing team is $75 (the difference between racing and recreational fees) plus the regatta fees. Once you join the racing team it is expected that you plan on attending the regattas.

Why switch?
While recreational or 3-day a week rowing is fun, competitive rowing on the racing team takes the experience to a new level. The novices will race in categories with other novices of similar experience levels. If you are planning on sticking with rowing for subsequent seasons, joining the racing team will help you bridge ‘experience’ gap between the current varsity rowers and the novices.

Often new rowers will hear about our programs after the start of our season. If that is the case you may still be able to join Spring enrollment will stay open till March 20th, 2010. You may also row during subsequent seasons. Check the site often to stay informed about the summer, fall, and winter seasons coming up.

To learn more about rowing for GMRC please plan on attending our Parent Meeting Thursday, February 18th, 2010 (location TBD). This meeting is mandatory for anyone wishing to race.

Highlights
Indoor Rowing Tank Visits. The Cincinnati Rowing and Fitness Center (located under the Montgomery Inn on Eastern Ave.) also has what is called an indoor rowing 'tank'. It simulates rowing on the water. If the weather is too cold at the beginning of the season we will plan a few trips to the tanks.

Extensive Racing Schedule. This spring we have an extensive racing schedule planned. Check out the dates below and see where we are headed.

Burgundy and Blue Regatta. This year our regatta will be open to other crews as we compete on our home course. This will be the recreational team's chance to show what they've learned in an intersquad scrimmage and will be the final regatta before the championships for the racing team. Family and friends of the rowers are invited to come and watch what the kids have learned on the water this season.

Membership Fees
Racing Team: $250 plus the cost of regatta fees (see below)
Recreational Team: $175

We split the cost of trailering the equipment, entry fees, food, and lodging (if necessary) among all rowers going. Regatta fees are assessed after the season begins allowing additional recreational members to move to the racing team. Every rower on the racing team is expected to come to every regatta and regatta fees will not be prorated if a rower chooses to miss a regatta.

Online Registration
All rowers must register online every season. We cannot allow complete participation until the forms and fees are submitted. If you are having trouble with this process, contact Program Director Emilie Graham at 513-892-GMRC or email Regatta Central at support@regattacentral.com. Please review the table below and register online for the correct program.

Youth Spring Season 2010

All rowers who do not wish to compete regardless of experience should row for the recreational team.

Location
Our spring training will start at the Hamilton Central YMCA, 105 N Second St, Hamilton, OH 45013. Please park in the parking garage at the corner of Third Street and Market Street and bring the ticket indoors to be validated.

Once the weather permits we will move to our on river site location at 110 N. B Street in Hamilton, OH 45012. We predict that we will move to the river during the week of March 8th, however, this will be weather dependent. Click here to view directions to both sites.

Attendance at practice is paramount. Missing too much practice can jepoardize a rower's chances at competing in a higher boat. We recognize that appointments are hard to make outside of practice, so please use these days to take care of group projects, doctors appointments, or to catch up on homework. It is unacceptable to miss racing practice due to avoidable circumstances.
